China’s Lu Delin Is a Certified Unit. His 180-Kilogram Hang Snatch Proves It

The impressive feats of strength keeping rolling off of Lü Xiaojun Barbell’s Instagram feed. On May 16, 2022, a new post showed weightlifter Lu Delin performing a 180-kilogram (396.8-pound) hang snatch — a hefty accomplishment from the 81-kilogram athlete.

Although Delin’s lift was a hang snatch rather than the full competition variation, it’s still a pretty major feat. It proves that Delin has the raw strength to go toe-to-toe with the best in the world. With this hang snatch, Delin is sparring with the best in his weight class.

The 81-kilogram snatch world record, held by Li Dayin, came in at 175 kilograms (385.8 pounds) during the 2020 Asian Weightlifting Championships (which took place in 2021). As a hang snatch, Delin’s lift doesn’t impact the world record — but it’s still a show of immense strength.

You can watch Delin’s hang snatch (and be more impressed than his coach seems to be) here:

Lu Delin’s Weightlifting Career

Though Delin has not made an appearance at any International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) meets, he’s still a lifter to look out for. In 2021, Delin took home the 81-kilo silver medal from the National Games of China in Shaanxi. There, he lifted a total of 363 kilos (800.3 pounds). He came in second to Dayin, who boasted a 364-kilogram (802.5-pound) total to secure himself the win by a single kilo.

Heavy Hang Snatches

Hang snatches aren’t used in competition. Instead, weightlifters use this accessory move to improve their snatch technique while strengthening their posterior chain.

As such, it’s not uncommon to see elite weightlifters going hard with this lift. World weightlifting champion Artem Okulov of Russia has hit a 190-kilogram (418.9-pound) hang snatch at 85-kilos.

Olympic champion Ruslan Nurudinov of Uzbekistan pulled the lift for 200 kilos (440.9 pounds) at 109 kilos. Armenian weightlifter Simon Martirosyan has hang snatched 205 kilos (451.9 pounds).

As the lightest lifter of this bunch, Delin’s 180-kilogram hang snatch proves his raw strength among the best. The 2022 IWF’s Asian Games have been postponed until 2023. So, we’ll have to wait and see where Delin wil demonstrate his competition strength next.
