Flintstone Barbell

The format for this event was in rounds. Each athlete attempted the opening weight of 175 kilograms (385 pounds). 2022 WSM Day Three Results

The final day of the Qualifying Stage is a wrap. It’s been an interesting one, folks. ICYMI, here are the notable storylines:

  • Mark Felix set a new world record in the Wrecking Ball Hold with an incredible time of 2:20.49.
  • Gabriel Rhéaume made it to the Final through the Stone-Off with the initiative (he lifted first).
  • After the Stone-Off, five more men became Finalists. They are: Gabriel Rhéaume, Brian Shaw, Trey Mitchell, Maxime Boudreault, and Eythor Ingolfsson Melsted.

Stone-Off Results

Two athletes — the second- and third-place finishers in each group — needed to hoist six stones, with the last stone being an AMRAP (as many reps as possible). The six stones, in order, weighed: 150 kilograms, 160 kilograms, 160 kilograms, 180 kilograms, 180 kilograms, and 200 kilograms.

Whoever finishes each Group in second place has an advantage in that they lift the stone second. That means if the first athlete fails to lift the stone, they’re automatically eliminated. This advantage is especially important during the AMRAP; even if both men hoist the stone the same number of times, the athlete with the initiative still loses if he fails to lift.

Here are the match-ups, with those who have the advantage listed first. Winners are bolded

  • Group 3: Trey Mitchell vs. Adam Bishop
  • Group 4: Maxime Boudreault vs. Pavlo Kordiyaka
  • Group 5:  Eythor Ingolfsson Melsted vs. Jean-Stephen Coraboeuf

Wrecking Ball Hold Results

Each strongman must hold 228 kilograms (500 pounds) for as long as possible. The question of whether or not the strongman who clinched groups would make legitimate attempts or ceremonial ones to secure the requisite points lingered in the crowd. The temperature at the start of the event was in the mid-60s (Fahrenheit).
