2022 CrossFit Age Group Semifinals Results and Recap: Who’s Off to Madison?

The 2022 CrossFit Semifinals kicked off on May 20 in three different countries and has now wrapped up its third week. During weeks two and three, the Age Group Semifinals went virtual across the globe. From May 26-29, athletes in ages 14 to 49 went head-to-head. June 2-5 saw the 50+ divisions battling it out for tickets to Madison.

In 2022, instead of qualifying through the Games through events specific to their divisions, Age Group athletes participated in a new online global Semifinal. To get to the Semifinals, athletes had to be in the top 30 athletes of their division in the 2022 CrossFit Quarterfinals. The Quarterfinals, in turn, had been filled by the top 10 percent of athletes in each Age Group division from the 2022 CrossFit Open. After the Semifinals, the top 10 athletes in each division will earn a ticket to the Games in August.

2022 CrossFit Age Group Semifinals Overall Leaderboard

Games veteran Chyna Cho just barely missed the Games in 2021 after finishing 11th in the Semifinals, but she made up for it this year. Cho’s performance in the women’s 35-39 division was dominant, only finishing lower than fifth once. She’ll be heading back to Madison this year, along with young Games veteran RJ Mestre in the 14-15 boy’s division and 50-54 women’s division winner Tea Gebbie, who will be heading to the Games for the first time in 2022.

The top 10 athletes in each division will head to the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games.

Note: The top 10 athletes from each division will move on to the Games. The leaderboards will be finalized no more than a week after the competitions end, per the CrossFit Games Rulebook. This article will be updated to confirm which athletes secured top spots when the information becomes available.

2022 CrossFit Age Group Semifinals Event Results

Mestre dominated the 14-15 boy’s division, finishing first in three of six events. This wasn’t entirely surprising after his fifth-place finish in the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games. And while Sam Dancer of the men’s 35-39 division only finished lower than fifth place once, securing a first-place win, a third-place ranking, and two second-place finishes to earn himself first overall in his division. He’s coming back after a hiatus from the Games and looks ready to go.
