19-Year Old Max Shethar (140KG) Deadlifts 365 Kilograms — the Heaviest Ever In the Teen 18-19 Division
On June 11, 2022, 19-year-old Max Shethar scored a raw 907.2-kilogram (2,000-pound) sleeved total in the 140-kilogram weight class at the 2022 United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) Matt Hurley Drug Tested Memorial Meet in Helena, MT. During the deadlift portion of the contest, Shethar called for 365 kilograms (804.7 pounds) on the barbell. Wearing a lifting belt, Shethar locked out that raw lift to secure the heaviest deadlift ever in competition by a 19-year-old, according to Open Powerlifting.

Shethar is no stranger to lifting heavy in sanctioned powerlifting competitions as a teenager. In 2019, he became the youngest athlete to deadlift 327.5 kilograms (722 pounds). His training has significantly improved his deadlift by 37.5 kilograms (82.7 pounds) in the past three years. Per Shethar’s caption on his Instagram post, his 365-kilogram deadlift was a 33-pound personal record.
The 2022 USPA Matt Hurley Drug Tested Memorial Meet was Shethar’s seventh sanctioned powerlifting meet of his career. He stood atop the podium in every contest he’s appeared in, including his win at the 2018 USA Powerlifting (USAPL) Raw Nationals. His competitive resume is below:
Max Shethar’s Powerlifting Career
- 2017 USAPL Washington State Championships — First place
- 2018 USAPL Washington State Championships — First place
- 2018 USAPL Raw Nationals — First place
- 2019 USPA Drug Tested Washington State Open — First place
- 2021 USPA Ragnarok Invite II — First place
- 2022 Big Iron Classic State Championships — First place
- 2022 USPA Matt Hurley Drug Tested Memorial Meet — First place
Not only did Shethar exceed his previous deadlift record in the Teen 18-19 division — 350 kilograms (771.7 pounds) at the 2021 USPA Ragnarok Invite II — he also eclipsed the prior Teen 18-19 world record total of 882.5 kilograms (1,945.6 pounds) that he scored at that same meet. Shethar’s new world record deadlift is also heavier than the heaviest deadlift in the Teen 18-19 superheavyweight division — 350 kilograms (771.7 pounds) by Brandon Derrick at the 2020 USAPL Missouri River Open.
Shethar is a lifter to keep your eyes on as he has consistently lifted immensely heavy throughout his powerlifting career during his teenage years. He will likely challenge Junior world records once he is of age.
