Strongwoman Rhianon Lovelace (U64KG) Hits Unofficial Deadlift World Record of 280 Kilograms (617.3 Pounds)

Strongwoman Rhianon Lovelace is a strength phenomenon. The U64KG athlete took to her Instagram page on June 21, 2022, to share a training video wherein she locked out an unofficial deadlift world record of 280 kilograms (617.3 pounds). That lift is 7.5 kilograms (16.5 pounds) over the current deadlift record she has held since January 2020 at the 2020 Strength Shop Record Breakers contest.

Lovelace wore a lifting belt and lifting straps to perform her training deadlift. She implements a hitch once the barbell was above her knees — a legal maneuver in strongman and strongwomen competitions. She deadlifted in socks and the motion from the floor to the lockout was relatively smooth. Check it out below:

Lovelace was not planning to surpass her world record during this training session. In the caption of her Instagram post, she mentioned that her planned top single was a 265-kilogram (584.2-pound) pull (swipe to the left in the post above to see that lift).

However, 265-kilogram (584.2-pound) moved so smoothly that she recognized she had enough fuel in the tank to up the weight into unexplored territory:

…what was supposed to be my top set — 265 kilograms…convinced us to make this jump today!!

Lovelace intends to officially break her deadlift world record on July 16, 2022, at the 2022 Berkshire’s Strongest contest. The day before that competition, Lovelace will lead a deadlift and log lift seminar hosted by Red Beard Barbell Club. Moving up her deadlift to 280 kilograms (617.3 pounds) was a specific target because it is 100 kilograms (220.4 pounds) heavier than when she first claimed the deadlift world record in 2017.

Lovelace also holds the British deadlift record after locking out 241 kilograms (530 pounds) raw at the 2022 British Powerlifting Union (BPU) Single Lift British Championships in Manchester, England, held on May 20-21, 2022. According to Open Powerlifting, that lift is 13.5 kilograms (29.8 pounds) more than Sharon Eggleton’s second-heaviest ever British deadlift.

Judging from her current training, with just under a month until her next contest, Lovelace is poised to pry open the record books yet again. If her 280-kilograms (617.3-pound) attempt in competition is successful, it would be nearly 4.4 times her competition bodyweight.
