Hassan appeared to have no trouble cleaning the 193 kilograms. He employed a squat jerk technique to move the barbell overhead while wearing a lifting belt, wrist wraps, and knee sleeves. Despite his arms visibly shaking with Youth world record weight above him, he got the call for a good lift from the judges and through down the weight with a smile.

Hassan’s third clean & jerk attempt was explicitly for the Youth world record as his second clean & jerk attempt of 175 kilograms (385.8 pounds) already clinched him the overall win. The final results of the competition are below:

2022 IWF Youth World Championships | Men’s 89KG

  • Mahmoud Hassan (Egypt) — 343 kilograms (756.2 pounds)
  • Nikoloz Esartia (Georgia) — 315 kilograms (694.5 pounds)
  • Carlos Enrique Leon Avella (Venezuela) — 280 kilograms (617.3 pounds)

Hassan’s IWF Youth world record clean & jerk is 2.2 times his competition bodyweight. The lift eclipsed the previous IWF Youth world record clean & jerk scored by Siarhei Sharankou of Belarus at the 2019 European Youth Weightlifting Championships in Eliat, Israel.

The 2022 IWF Youth World Championships were Hassan’s international competition debut. The contest concludes on June 18, 2022. At the time of this article’s publication, the Men’s 102-kilogram and +102-kilogram and the Women’s 81-kilogram and +81-kilogram categories are still to come.
