2022 CrossFit Adaptive Semifinal Results and Recap: Who is the Fittest and Who is Heading to Madison?

The third weekend of the 2022 CrossFit Semifinals saw a lot of action around the world. From the in-person Far East Throwdown in Busan, South Korea and Granite Games in Eagan, MN to the virtual competitions for the Age Group (50+) and Adaptive Semifinals, CrossFit fans and athletes had a lot to look forward to coming into the start of June.

Held virtually for the top 20 athletes in each of the 16 adaptive divisions, the Adaptive Semifinal took place from June 2-5. The stakes were high for athletes across every division, but they were slightly different across divisions. Three divisions — Neuromuscular, Lower Extremity, and Upper Extremity — will be sending their top five athletes to compete in Madison. The winners from remaining five divisions — Vision, Intellectual, Seated With Hip Function, Seated Without Hip Function, and Short Stature — were crowned the fittest.

2022 CrossFit Adaptive Semifinal Madison-Bound Overall Leaderboard

The top five competitors in the Neuromuscular, Lower Extremity, and Upper Extremity divisions will be moving on to compete in Madison in August. Brett Horchar in men’s Neuromuscular won first in the starting three events, and took home second in the fourth and sixth. This dominant performance landed him first overall in his division. Alyssa Kobela on the women’s Neuromuscular side never finished lower than third to secure her first-place finish overall.

In men’s Upper Extremity, Games veteran Casey Acree finished second in the first event, but bounced back with first place wins in the next four events. That wasn’t entirely surprising, given his first-place finish in six of seven events during the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games. He also won the 2022 CrossFit Open across the world in his division, and is poised for another dominant performance in Madison this year.
